A women among men...

So, J1 was watching the Food Channel with me *far too late* tonight (we are all SUCH night owls here at Aquinas Academy!) You can imagine the demographic for the Food Channel at 11pm, right? So there was an ad for Monistat...and J1 said, "Look at the size of those pills, can you believe that??" And, well - I don't hide things from my sons. J1 and all the boys have known from a fairly young age about femine hygiene products, a woman's cycle, that sort of thing. Not like details and specifics, but just the general information they need to live with a woman, ya know? So there's J1 tonight, horrifed by the size of the Monistat "pills". And I couldn't help it. "J1, those aren't pills that you swallow," I said. "What do you mean?" said J1, blankly. "Women sometimes get fungal infections in their vaginal tracts. It's a girl thing, you probably don't want to know." And the light dawns in my 10 year old's eyes. "I think I have a pretty good idea of what you're talking about, and I REALLY don't want to know! Curse you, mom!" he says in his Very Dramatic Voice.

I'd like to think he'll be a good husband someday. But for now, he's a rather traumatized 10 year old.

And I just can't stop giggling!

I guess I'm more of a tell them something without really telling them anything type of mom when it comes to that stuff right now. If they continue to ask questions I'm a change the subject type of mom!
Not that this is a good thing by anymeans, my brain just freezes in these types of situations. Maybe I should write up some note cards and carry them around with me.

Very funny story, thanks for sharing!

LOL! I guess maybe it IS pretty detailed for most people. But J1 is my science guy - he's always been intensely curious and HAS to have details, especially about the body. If he gets a cut, a band-aid isn't enough. I need to explain about platelets, how the blood clots, and white blood cells that will attack the germs, etc - he's been like this since he was a toddler! He knew the names of all the bones in the ear when he was three years old! When he noticed one day (quite by accident - I never could be in the bathroom by myself when my kids were toddlers!) that mom was bleeding, he lost his mind, and the best thing I could do was explain it with some technical details. So, the other day, he was actually less freaked out by the thought of a woman's fungal infection than the idea of swallowing horse pills. LOL! That's just him - all kids are different!
